Hall Timeline
Construction Begins
On December 10, 2018, construction begins on a four-story female residence hall east of Dunne Hall. The 68,000 square foot building will house 225 undergraduate women and will be ready for move in for Fall 2020.
Hall Name Announcement
On Friday, September 6, 2019, the new Residence Hall's name was shared with great excitement. As a community, we learned that our new hall name would be- Johnson Family Hall.
On Sunday, September 8, we took Hall photos outside both Pangborn and Johnson Family Hall and welcomed Johnson Family Hall to the world with a birthday party after mass.
We are proud to be the Pangborn-Johnson Community, otherwise known as PB&J!

Move in 2020
In August 2020, Valkyries moved into their dream homem for the first time! We welcomed our newest Valkyries - those who transferred to our community, and all new students.
Chapel Blessing
On September 6, 2020 at 10a.m. Valkyries gathered in the St. Teresa of Calcutta Chapel on the first floor of Johnson as well as on Zoom (per COVID-19 safety guidelines) and had mass with Bishop Kevin Rhoades who blessed the new chapel. Johnson Family Hall priest in residence, Fr. Tom Eckert as well as Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Pete McCormick concelebrated the mass. Afterwards, Valkyries, gathered for lunch on East Quad.
Ride of the Valks - Our First Tradition
On September 19, 2020 at 7:30 in the morning we held our first Ride of the Valks. We awaken our warriors for battle, and we traveled across the campus yelling our battle cry! We then completed our quest by conquering the waves of the Hesburgh Library Reflection Pool.
Johnson's Inaugural SYR
On October 29, 2021, at 10 PM the floors of the Jordan Hall of Science Galleria lit up with lights of our inaugural dance, the SYR. In typical Notre Dame fashion, we ensured to have great musics and great costumes to match our magical theme of Disney!
Johnson Family Feud - Our First Signature Event
On November 5, 2021, we had our first ever signature event entitled Johnson Family Feud. We hosted teams from every dorm to compete in a Notre Dame inspired family feud trivia game.
Dancing in the Moonlight - Johnson's First Formal
On March 26, 2022, we danced the night away at Johnson's First Formal. We danced underneath the moonlight with our friends and new family by our side in the Jordan Hall of Science Galleria.
Empower - Our Spring Signature Event
On April 2, 2022, we invited self-defense instructors to teach our warrior women across campus to best defend themselves as our second signature event in the spring. All entry fees and donations were sent to St. Margaret's House in South Bend to help their mission of improving the lives of women and children.
